According to Wikipedia, “Reiki is a form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a “universal energy” is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.“ But it’s so much more than this. Reiki can harm no one. If the person receiving the treatment doesn’t want it, the energy goes to someone else that does want it. Reiki is not invasive. Reiki can heal emotionally, physically, and/or spiritually. The “universal energy“ or whatever you may want to call “it” decides what’s going to be healed along with your own inner healer. The practitioner is only the conduit and has no control over what is being healed. The practitioner can guide the energy healing to certain areas of the body, but it’s the inner healer of the client that has the final say so.
Various reactions occur during and after a session. Changing emotions, body temperature changes, feeling of relaxation to falling asleep all have occurred. Some have even had visions and vivid dreams after a session. This is all normal. If you have a good practitioner, they will advise that they will be available to you for any questions or concerns after a session. It would be advisable to keep a journal at hand to write down any of your thoughts, feelings, visions, or dreams in order to be able to keep track of your journey into healing. You might find some “a-ha!” moments down the road.
